New Player Development Programme launched

Petone FC is delighted to announce the launch of the Petone Settlers Talent Centre. A new development programme for players aged between 9 and 19 years.  This is an opportunity for players to attend specialised training sessions each week with a programme designed to maximise their potential in challenging and enjoyable sessions.

The Talent Centre commenced in Term 4 for selected U17 boys, and girls aged 9-16 years. It includes up to three training sessions per week for a period of six weeks.

Marc Thomas is the Director of the Petone Settlers Talent Centre, with Gary Jenkins (Director of Junior Football) leading the girls development programme. Marc was appointed as the club's Technical Director earlier this year and has extensive experience coaching in New Zealand and Australia. He holds a UEFA B Coaching Licence, as well as a diploma in teaching (PE) and a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science.

“This is a very exciting step for the club and our players. We want to ensure players have a clear pathway to senior football with Petone and have the best opportunity to develop their skills in a way that works for them,” says Andy Badrick, Club Chairman.

In 2019, additional age groups will be added, including the introduction of two pathways - a Community pathway and a Talent pathway.

Why has Petone started a Talent Centre?

Following an assessment of the current football environment in Wellington and information from Capital Football regarding the existing Federation talent pathway, which is undergoing changes from 2019, meaning greater emphasis is being placed on clubs for player and talent development, Petone FC wants to ensure a strong development programme is available for our players.

The Petone Settlers Talent Centre will encompass both community and talent pathways to enable all players (boys and girls) to develop to their greatest potential at all levels.

More information will be available for players, parents and coaches over the coming months as we prepare for the 2019 season.
